SOUTHERN UTAH'S HOT SPOT FOR BOATING, SWIMMING, AND FISHING

Quail Lake is a local favorite in Southern Utah for fantastic boating, water sports, skiing, fishing, and water recreation.

Boating

One of the warmest lakes in southern Utah, Quail Lake is a boater's paradise. Several boat ramps allow for quick launch into the water. Another great advantage to boating at Quail Lake is not having to worry about the decontamination of your watercraft. Clean tags are no longer used.

Swimming and Paddle Boarding

Beautiful warm and clean water makes Quail Creek Reservoir perfect for swimming and paddle boarding with families and friends. Beaches allow for a nice home base picnic area. Swim, splash, and play for the day in warm, relatively shallow, and inviting water.

Fishing

Fishing at Quail Creek offers a variety of fish that thrive in warmer water, including largemouth bass and bluegill. These fish are plentiful for anglers in the upper layers of the reservoir. Rainbow trout, bullhead catfish, and crappie which are typically cold water fish also are stocked in the lake and can survive due to the depth of the lake being over 120 feet at its deepest point.

History

Quail Creek Reservoir was built and completed in 1985 with the original purpose to provide irrigation to the St. George area. Most of the water in the reservoir does not come from Quail Creek, but is diverted from the Virgin River and transported through a buried pipeline.

The reservoir is made up of two dams. The main dam is an earthfill embankment dam and the south dam is a roller-compacted concrete dam, constructed to replace the original earthfill dam that failed in the early hours of New Year's Day 1989.
